Creative Spirit Blog December 16, 2024 A Gift to Yourself

Echoes From the Past Collage

“The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away”.                                                               Pablo Picasso

Have you ever stopped to think what a great gift you have been given, if you can express yourself through the arts?  We who can are so fortunate!

We are all born with the gift of creativity. It is part of our DNA. However, the extent of its development in everyone depends on the opportunities and experiences we have been given.  It encompasses all human experiences. Creativity is the act of processing information we already have in new ways, adding new insights and emotions to our knowledge.  It is not limited to the fine arts. Those of us who have been allowed the opportunity to fully develop it, in form of a “fine art”, are very fortunate.

Creativity is something like muscle.  We must work it to develop it to its fullest potential.  This is a gift we can give ourselves. It takes willingness, time, and practice and we need to stay open to possibilities. Our time on Earth is not without limits, so we should make the most of each day. Give ourselves the gift of time to explore all the possibilities there are to open and utilize our “creative spirit”.  We can explore new materials or use old materials in a new way; to connect our life experiences and the things that fascinate us into an art form.

From Thanksgiving to the New Year, people of all religions and backgrounds, in some personal way, give thanks and celebrate something meaningful to them. Many people review the past, take stock of where they are now, think about the direction they may want to move forward in, and make resolutions.  Let us, give ourselves the gift of exploring and developing our “creative spirt” to the fullest.  If we strip away unnecessary distractions, we make room for the things and experiences that are essential to our happiness and peace.  We give ourselves the gift of time to develop our “creative spirit”.

I know as a visual fine artist; I am grateful that I have this outlet.  That I have this special way to speak to the world.  I am grateful that I can think out of the box and see new possibilities in every eventuality.

As “Creatives” we have a unique and powerful role in society. Through our work, we can make the world a more beautiful place, record history, and make people look differently at everyday things. ideas, and emotions.

“There are moments in our lives, there are moments in a day, when we seem to see beyond the usual.  Such are the moments of our greatest happiness.  Such are the moments of our greatest wisdom.  If one could recall his vision by some sort of sign.  It was in this hope that the arts were invented.  Sign-posts on the way to what may be.  Sign-posts to greater knowledge.”                         Robert Henri

No matter which holiday you are celebrating, or how you are doing it, I hope it brings you joy, love, and peace.  May each of you have a very “Creative New Years.

If you are n the area I would like invite you to join me for a "Retrospective of Works Inspired by Nature."
